MS Dhoni’s IPL Future: CSK Fans Can Breathe Easy
As the excitement for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) builds, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans can rejoice as MS Dhoni has clarified his intention to participate in the tournament. In a recent statement, Dhoni expressed his eagerness to enjoy the remaining years of his cricketing career, emphasizing the importance of enjoying the game he loves.
Franchise CEO Kasi Viswanathan shared his relief, stating, “When he is ready, what else do we want? We are happy.” This sentiment came shortly after Dhoni’s remarks to the Times of India, where he stated, “I just want to enjoy whatever last few years of cricket I am able to play.” He acknowledged the challenges of maintaining professionalism in cricket but is determined to relish the experience while keeping himself fit throughout the year.

With Dhoni’s announcement, CSK officials are now preparing for their final retention decisions. Viswanathan confirmed that Dhoni will reach out to franchise owner N Srinivasan in the coming days to finalize the list of retained players. Interestingly, due to new retention rules, Dhoni will fall into the uncapped category, which means his retention will cost the franchise only INR 4 crore.

Looking ahead, it is likely that all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will be the top retention choice, followed closely by rising star Ruturaj Gaikwad. Additionally, fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana, a key CSK player, is set to be retained as well. The management is also considering which among Shivam Dube, Devon Conway, and uncapped talent Sameer Rizvi to keep.
As the franchise eagerly anticipates Dhoni’s call to finalize the roster, CSK fans can look forward to another thrilling season with their beloved captain at the helm.
